This is a quick and fast run as I have to return to the states to meet some event production commitments. To fund my nomad life I work as an event production specialist and moonlight as a chef back home. Ill be in Mex city for a week, then a few days of decomp in Tulum then back home to prep for a cooking a festival in the Catskills, New York.
In terms of getting these gigs, sometimes they find me, in this case I volunteered as a chef in residence in 2022 for this up and coming artist residency program. Its be a few years since and I am good friends with the founder, so, as one of my mentors says "Work Begets Work". I just show up, offer all of me and then people sort of just find me when they need me. I am fortunate and blessed to have friends who enjoy my work enough to mention it to friends or left enough of an impression over a decade of food pop ups across Boston and timezones. The short is, word of mouth is my way of operating mostly.
It helps that I have a resume in cooking, event production and the arts and that was a seed planted when I was 17. These days everything is build on trust and vibes for me. For example, if your ever like...you know I could use a storytelling chef as xyz event, I am your guy. Open for business for a plan ticket, good eats, and decent pay :)
And here I thought I had learned the skill of dancing with the chaos from life but perhaps it's actually all the travel. Or maybe it's a combination of both. My favorite piece about this was water bottle doubles as a weapon. Can't wait to hear what you create in Mexico!
dancing with chaos - love that. Do you know about Shiva's dance?
"Shiva’s dance that creates the universe is called the Tandava (or Ananda Tandava, meaning the Dance of Bliss).
It’s a cosmic dance that symbolizes the five acts of creation, preservation, destruction, concealment, and grace. In this dance, Shiva is often depicted as Nataraja—the "Lord of the Dance"—surrounded by a ring of fire, standing on a demon (Apasmara, representing ignorance), with one hand raised in blessing and another pointing to his raised foot, which offers liberation.
It’s one of the most powerful and beautiful metaphors in Hindu cosmology—Shiva dancing the rhythms of the universe into being." - ChatGBT
I think traveling opens up neural pathways to understanding how to use the material of life to create the reality that you want. Some people are content with the world around them and found comfort in the daily grind and weekend but many others have a struggling relationship with work and play. Anyhow dont mean to get preachy about it - Im just point out that the dance of this whole thing is indeed a travellers ballet and we are all dancing right now on a spinning disco ball we call Earth.
And yes! I am so excited to share the foods coming into play. Theres so much magic here. :)
An art gala in Mexico sounds like fun! How long will it be for? How do you get your next gigs that are in other parts of the world?

Work begets work. How true is that! Do you work full time in event planning and take breaks to travel or how does that work?
